Thirty Things I Want to Achieve Before I’m Thirty

Thirty Things I Want to Achieve Before I’m Thirty

After seeing this post by the lovely Ash Owens, I felt really inspired to actually sit down and write myself out a five year plan. I’ve always been big on goal setting and celebrating achievements, but never in a long term format. I guess it is only five years now until I hit the big 3-0, so it makes sense to identify the things I would like to do in that time and then start working on achieving those things.

Let me just say – it was hard coming up with thirty things that I want to achieve. I definitely filled the list up quickly, but then had to really evaluate whether it would be possible to achieve all of those things in {less than} five years. I decided to save a few goals for just myself and who knows – maybe you’ll hear about them soon? I think it’s healthy to be realistic but also to realise that you are capable of anything you put your mind to. So here are thirty things I would like to achieve before I’m thirty. Have you got thirty things you’d like to do? I’d love to hear about them in the comments if so.

1. LEARN GRAPHIC DESIGN. This is something I’m starting to do right at this very moment. I find text graphics and high-fashion imagery so exciting and we all know I love product photography, so I want to find ways to combine all three and hopefully create something really cool. Hand-letting is something I’ve always wanted to do {and if I’m honest have practised on the steamy shower glass since I was a child}. I think it will only do great things for my brand and business and will hopefully turn me into a more creative person throughout the rest of my life.

2. REGULATE MY HORMONES. Ah – getting right into it, aren’t we? All I’m saying is it would be fab to stop having night sweats.

3. GRADUATE. As this is my second degree, I’m not excited for the graduation ceremony… I’ve kinda been there, done that. It’s more about actually completing my Journalism degree as it has definitely been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done in my life. I just don’t have the personality and confidence of a journalist and it’s something that becomes so apparent everyday in my studies.

4. START A YOUTUBE CHANNEL. I briefly discussed this with a few of you on instagram last night, but I’ve actually wanted to start a Youtube channel for years. I can see myself creating vlogs and silly little videos of my cats, and also chatting about my favourite true crime cases. I think the video format is so exciting and is way easier to consume if the content is super information heavy {i.e. The Zodiac, etc}.

5. GO STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING. This is something I’ve wanted to do for such a long time but I’m slightly terrified of the concept of having my entire body above water for all to see. Also – I’ve heard it’s bloody hard work.

6. ADOPT ANOTHER CAT. Harry, if you’re reading this, I know you’re moaning at the thought of another cat, but I really would like to introduce a kitten into our family in the next five years. I’d love to see how Belle and Nala interact with a wee baby kitty – I definitely think Nala would be scared of it for the first eight months, but I’m not so sure about Belle. Part of me hopes she’d take on the nurturing mother role {soooo unlike her as she likes to think she’s the baby of the house}, but she could just end up chasing the poor thing all over the house and trying to eat its dinner like she does to Nala.

7. PAY OFF MY STUDENT LOAN. I would loooooove to have this done before thirty. Or at least have a good chunk of it paid off.

8. TRAVEL. This is quite an open ended goal as I’ve never actually left this country before {let alone gone on an aeroplane}… It’s something that I’m not super proud of, but growing up we never really had much money laying around so it just wasn’t an option for us. As an adult who is almost finished study, however, it is definitely on the agenda. I really want to go to Canada, England, and maybe New Zealand? The Blue Mountains are also on the list but they’re only a short plane ride away, which is probably where I’ll start.

9. WRITE A BOOK. I did study Creative Writing for four years, after all.

10. DESIGN MY OWN TEA BLEND. I definitely want to do this sooner rather than later. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even start up my own tea brand!

11. BUY A NEW COUCH. Okay this one is kinda silly but also honest, so I thought I’d include it here. Long story short: I fucking hate our couch. I want to buy a new one, but I’m SO picky and I don’t want to get stuck with a problematic one {i.e. super textured, cos the cats WILL scratch it if they can OR easy to stain}. I’m basically looking for an almost velvet texture, without being velvet {it’s 30 degrees here like ALWAYS}, with a super deep seat and supportive back that’s still comfortable in a 3 seater format that matches our interior style. I wasn’t joking when I said I was picky!

12. FIND MY GROUP. I’ve spoken about this before, but finding friends as an adult is really, really hard. Especially when you live hours away from your hometown and you’re sorta an introvert. I would love to find a group of like-minded, similar aged girls to just call ‘my group’ – you know? Sort of like the Sex and the City girls, without the behind-the-scenes cattiness. Interested? Please apply below LOL KIDDING. But seriously – hit me up on instagram.

13. SET UP A HOME OFFICE. This is also something I’ve been sort of working on behind the scenes, but I want to set up an incredible home office that makes me feel inspired every single day. Our current office is great – better than great – but I just don’t find myself wanting to spend time in there. It needs some new desks, seats and decor, and then maybe I’ll stop blogging at the dining table.

14. CUT MY HAIR SHORT. Stay tuned for this – it’s happening sooner than you might think.

15. DESIGN A HOMEWARES COLLECTION. Literally my entire dream in life, and something I think I’d be really, really good at.

16. MASTER PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY. Especially in black and white. I love a moody yet timeless portrait shot.

17. WORK FOR MYSELF FULL-TIME. Okay, no, this is definitely my entire dream in life. I’d love to wake up each day, cuddle my cats, and then spend my time creating cool shit that makes people feel inspired, and maybe even giving other writers and creatives the opportunity to do the same. I’d also love the freedom of being my own boss, and not having to leave my cats at home alone all day, or spend a third of my life helping somebody else achieve their dreams, instead of working on my own. I realise that this working for myself shit can be hard {I’m kinda doing a little bit of it already}, but I also know that nothing worth having is ever easy, and I’m willing to make that sacrifice to do something meaningful with my life. Can I get an amen?

18. CREATE A RANGE OF NATURAL PAMPER PRODUCTS. I guess this sort of links to the above goal, or goes hand in hand with it, but I’d love to create a line of natural body butters, scrubs and bath products that are totally natural, good for your body and great for the environment. I’ve used waaaay too many shitty pamper products that have irritated my skin and given me migraines to not be passionate about this.

19. UPSIZE OUR LIVING SPACE. Whether that’s buying our first property or moving to a larger rental, I definitely would love to have a big-girl house before I’m thirty.

20. START WRITING EXTERNALLY. Writing is one of my passions, and I would love the opportunity to start writing for other online publications, or even for brands! I think I have an interesting perspective on things and I love to work, so it would be the perfect way to be creative and add to my resume, all while pursuing the things that make me excited. I might even have to create my own external publication one day…

21. MEET MORE LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE IN MY AREA. I’m talking anybody who is creative: graphic designers, web-designers, coding experts, photographers, videographers, bloggers, writers, poets, artists – ANYONE who loves to create beautiful things. I’d also love a few pals who are interested in cats and true crime and tea and Netflix and interiors and fashion… basically anyone who shares the same interests that I can totally geek out with over our shared passions.

22. TAKE UP DRAWING AGAIN. I used to be quite the sketcher and then I kind of just stopped doing it? As I said before, I’m super passionate about hand-lettering and creating things with pencil and paper, so drawing is definitely the next step to unleashing my creative potential.

23. REDESIGN AGIRLANDGREY.COM. I’m not exactly sure what I want my site to look like as of yet, but I do think in a year or so I’ll sit down with a graphic designer/web designer and have the site looking a little more streamlined and a little more me

24. START CREATING FASHION CONTENT. I love fashion and I love fashion photography, but I just don’t really feel ready to start creating fashion based content yet. Hopefully soon though!

25. GET OVER MY FEAR OF THE OCEAN. For someone who used to love swimming out behind the break and playing in the ocean, it’s so weird to now be terrified of it. I think it’s got a lot to do with constantly being anxious and stressed, and so my fears of sting rays, sharks and whatever else is out there are just magnified – no matter how ridiculous those fears really are. I hope that by the time I turn thirty I’m so confident in the water that I can really enjoy the beautiful coastline where we live.

26. WORK WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER. Once I start creating fashion content I really want to find a photographer who can capture my visions. There are only so many times that I can ask Harry to capture the perfect shot for me, after all.

27. BUY A VITAMIX. Smoothies, soups, nice-cream, almond milk, pesto, nut butter, hummus, energy balls – just think of all the fun things I could make in under ten minutes in a Vitamix.

28. LEARN FRENCH. Probably my favourite language, and one that I sort of studied in high-school – I’d love to become somewhat fluent in the French language and then celebrate that fluency by travelling there in my thirties. Un, deux, trois.

29. FILL MY HOME WITH MY OWN ARTWORK. Including portrait photography, botanical imagery and graphics made by yours truly.

30. COLLABORATE WITH ANOTHER BLOGGER ON A MAJOR PROJECT. A photography book, an e-course, or maybe even a blog series? Who knows. I just think there is so much potential in the blogosphere and combining my skills with somebody else’s could be magical.

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it! I really encourage – if you haven’t already – sitting down and thinking of some goals to achieve before your next big age milestone. I think it’s so healthy to dream and aspire and I really do believe that if you want something enough and work hard for it, it will come to you. Leave me some of your goals in the comments below!

That’s great to have these 30 goals before 30. I wish I had done this at 25 ! But I hope you acheive all those goals and even if not all of them are complete by then, it doesn’t matter. Life is not a race. Take your time and enjoy your youth ! 🙂

What a great list! I’d love to do something similar, though thinking of 30 scares me as I’ve only just turned 24 lol! I’m in 100% support of you starting a YouTube channel, I love watching other peoples vlogs and think you would do a really great job 🙂 Also agreed on the friendship as adults thing, I moved to the Sunshine Coast 4 years ago (though I’m on the opposite end in Caloundra) and I’m yet to make a friend here. I don’t work on the coast either so I think that makes it harder because I find that’s generally when people meet new people. x
