Tea That Tastes Like Dessert

Tea That Tastes Like Dessert

I’m unfortunately not immune to sugar cravings, and I actually tend to get them a lot more than I would really like to.

If you’ve been around here before, you’ll know that I’m sorta passionate about tea. I write about it a lot here on my blog, but something I’ve never really mentioned before is that I only really like tea that tastes like dessert.

It feels weird to share that kind of information as I feel as though it strips me of my ‘tea-expert’ status, but I just want to be honest about the whole thing. I don’t sit at my dining table in the afternoons sipping oolong tea, I couldn’t really give a shit about white tea, and I kind of hate the taste of grassy floral blends.

I’ll drink a cup of peppermint tea some days – I’ve even been known to reach for a green tea on the odd occasion – but nine times out of ten you’ll find me drinking either a super strong black tea {with a dash of oat milk plz!} or a tea blend that tastes like some form of dessert.

While my birth certificate says 25 and my face says 64 {lol seriously though – help}, in reality I’m a total kid. I just LOVE SUGAR and, honestly, all foods that are deemed as ‘bad’ are on the list of my favourite things to eat. I could legitimately eat cake all fucking day if there were no ramifications {this should say ‘no further ramifications’ – I’m already kind of large and in charge}, and don’t even get me started on my McDonalds addiction.

BUT, as I am 25, and supposedly ‘grown’ enough to know better, I don’t indulge in these cravings as much as I would like to. I remember reading once that Blake Lively maintains her figure by eating ‘just one bite’ of dessert each night, but the unfortunate truth is that whenever there is cake/chocolate/ice cream in our house, Harry and I act as though it’s a challenge to see who can eat it all first. It’s actually kind of sickening and I wish I had even a fraction of self control, but I don’t, and so 99% of the time our house is a dessert free household.

The only problem with this is that my sweet tooth is beyond real on all days that end with ‘Y’ {maybe I need to get this checked out at the dentist} and so, out of sheer desperation, my love of dessert tea was born.

You guys. There are teas out there that taste like pancakes drizzled in maple syrup, gooey apple crumble topped with vanilla ice cream, juicy strawberries dipped in whipped cream, tangy stewed rhubarb drizzled in custard, nutty carrot cake topped with cream cheese, buttery apple strudel, gooey caramel brownie, creamy rice pudding topped with jam and EVEN MORE.

Hungry yet?

I haven’t even mentioned the best part – almost all of these teas measure at less than 10 calories a serve, which means they’re an essential for anyone looking to lose weight. Skip the chocolate brownie after dinner – just make yourself a pot of tea! I promise you it tastes exactly the same {sometimes better, to be fair} and you won’t feel guilty for overindulging.

Please take note that I’m not condoning skipping dessert 100% of the time {#treatyourself honey} – I’m mainly talking to those people who are very much like myself in that they lack self control and have a raging sweet tooth 24/7. This ones for you babes. Drink the tea Monday through Friday and then go all out on the weekend. You deserve it.

Without further adieu, here are my favourite teas that taste like dessert:

Vicky’s Sponge Cake by Bluebird Tea Co

Black tea that tastes like vanilla sponge and berry jam, Vicky’s Sponge Cake was made to be enjoyed over afternoon tea. Skip the cake and just prepare a huge pot of this blend. I love the ingredients in this tea, and also that there are whole raspberries inside the pack. It makes for the perfect tea to display in a beautiful glass jar, and would look absolutely divine diffusing in a glass teapot. Buy yours here.

Peach Cobbler by Bluebird Tea Co

I’ve always been a bit addicted to peach iced tea, but lately have been reaching for a hot cup of Peach Cobbler instead. It’s made on black tea and has little pieces of dried peach throughout. I think the best bit though, is that it somehow tastes like buttery, crumbly crust, which might just be my favourite part.

Rice Pudding and Jam by Bluebird Tea Co

The only time you’ll catch me drinking white tea is when I’m drinking this blend. The flavour of Rice Pudding and Jam is interesting – it’s spiced and fruity and sweet, but also creamy and decadent at the same time. I’ve never tried rice pudding before, but if it’s anything like this tea – sign me the f up.

Rhubarb and Custard by Bluebird Tea Co

Another creamy blend, except this one contains rhubarb, which might just be my favourite winter treat. Rhubarb and Custard is a rooibos base, which means it’s perfect for an evening cuppa, and is also super diet friendly as it only contains one calorie per serve. This is one of my ideal evening teas, especially when the freezer section of the supermarket is calling my name. Buy yours here.

Apple Strudel by Bluebird Tea Co

This award winning blend is definitely one of my go-to teas in the colder months. It’s a rooibos base with lots of cinnamon and apple and tastes just like the real thing. It’s also got a little bit of lemon and orange in it, which makes the flavour that much more complex. Buy yours here.

Carrot Cake by Bluebird Tea Co

This originally began as an Easter tea, but was brought back permanently because of the high demand! Carrot Cake is yet another amazing rooibos blend, but this one definitely pairs better with a dash of oat milk and a little drizzle of honey. I love that it contains caramelised hazelnuts, vanilla and actual carrot pieces. This is one of those blends that 100% tastes better than the real thing. Buy yours here.

Apple Crumble by T2

Another spiced apple tea, this time with hazelnut brittle pieces throughout, Apple Crumble also contains chicory root – which is fab for de-stressing. This is another essential evening blend in my books, and I go through boxes of this stuff WAY too fast. Buy yours here.

Caramel Brownie by T2

This blend tastes just as good as you imagine it to – perhaps even better. It’s a black tea base with chocolate and gooey caramel, and is the ideal 3pm cuppa for when the sugar cravings are at an all time high. I love Caramel Brownie brewed strong with just a dash of oat milk. It’s absolute perfection on its own, but also incredible with a biscuit to dip in {you didn’t hear it from me}! Buy yours here.

Strawberries and Cream by T2

Sweet and creamy, this tea is heaven in a cup. I like to drink Strawberries and Cream iced in the warmer months, but it’s equally as fab brewed hot. If you’re feeling fancy, it also pairs well with a bit of champagne. This is definitely one you cannot pass up! Buy yours here.

New York Breakfast by T2

And finally, my favourite tea blend to exist – ever – New York Breakfast is a black tea base with lashings of vanilla and maple and a few other bits that make it taste exactly like buttery, syrupy pancakes. I’ve converted so many of my friends {who hated tea!} to drinking this three times a day. It’s my go-to breakfast blend and I honestly don’t think I could live without it. Buy yours here.
