Letter From The Editor: November

Letter From The Editor: November

I haven’t written a blog post in over a week {exam study and all that} and I’ve sort of forgotten how to do it? I feel totally lost – what do I usually say at the start of these things again?

Anyway, yes, I’ve been in the throes {slightly exaggerative} of criminology exam study and, quite frankly, hating every moment of it. It’s interesting, but also tedious, and stressful, but also boring at the same time. Ya dig?

We’re well and truly in November now – my favourite month of the year as it’s my birthday month!! – and after all of the Halloween content I threw your way, I’m in preparation for a long December of over-the-top Christmas everything. I hope you’re ready for it!

As my birthday is fast approaching, I’ve been compiling little wish lists in my notes app of things I’d love to find neatly wrapped at the end of my bed come the 29th. If you’re a November babe like me, or are looking for ideas for what you should put on your Christmas wish list, make sure to check out  the Fashion & Lifestyle Edit as well as the Beauty & Skincare Edit. I’ve popped all of my birthday wish list items on there, as well as a bunch of other fab gift ideas for your friends + fam! The obvious stand outs are this candle, this boujee as f*ck camera bag, this timeless watch, and these beaut slippers. I also popped these sunnies and this necklace on my wish list, but wouldn’t be mad if this lip balm showed up on my bedside table overnight, too.

After opening up about the way I experience anxiety on the blog, I’ve been thinking more and more about how weird our brains are. The fact that one person can experience such internal angst about something, while the person next to them is totally unfazed… it’s just such a weird thing that happens, I guess. My dad and I were speaking about anxiety last night {as he deals with a bit of anxiety, too} and it really made me consider how much perspective I apply to each situation that makes me anxious. After waking up this morning, I did some Pinterest scrolling and found two quotes that sum up perfectly how I feel about worrying and feeling anxious, especially for events and situations. Obviously, these are just quotes and don’t fix the imbalances that occur in our brains, but if you keep repeating them to yourself, I hope they help you breathe just a little more in panicky situations.

** they’re both optimised for iPhone too, so you can set one as your phone wallpaper if you want! Who doesn’t love a motivating phone wallpaper, tbh.

I also wanted to discuss the concept of exploring your anxieties, as opposed to just dealing with them. I’ve honestly found that through discussing the things that make me anxious, I’ve become more at peace with the inner workings of my mind. I understand that my anxiousness about the house blowing up is because I love my house, and my constant worrying about intruders is because I don’t want anyone to hurt my cats. Exploring our anxieties, instead of just allowing them to sit there and eat away at us, is one more way that you can gain control back over your mind. Give it a try over the next few weeks and report back – I’m interested to see if you can find the root of your worries, like I have with some of mine.

Now, for some November goals.

  1. Get the house Christmas ready >> keep an eye out on my instagram stories for this. I’m going to do a whole house reveal on there!
  2. Perfect my ‘beauty’ routine >> there are some weeks where I don’t keep up with basic maintenance like shaving my legs and taming my eyebrows {let’s not even talk about the state of my cuticles}, but I wan’t to get some sort of little routine perfected this month so that I never feel like a swamp monster.
  3. Drink more water >> I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve totally lost the taste for water. I used to be able to drink 4-5 litres a day, no problem, but I’m really struggling to even reach 2 these days! It just tastes weird, so I’ll need to figure out some tricks to make it taste better for sure. I’m basically living on sparkling water atm, if I’m being honest.

Love this so much, Sharni. So beautifully designed.
My November goals : Redesign & relaunch my blog, read more, cook more. Yay!
Check out Twinings new In’fuse line for water — I was the same, I just could not stomach the taste of water anymore. In’fuse is almost like a cold water tea bag, but a nice subtle flavour. Rose Lemonade is amaze x
