Letter From The Editor: December

Letter From The Editor: December

The final month of the year is without a doubt the most magical, however it’s also well-known to be one of the most draining, too.

Hopping to and from different social events, as well as trying to shop for all of your loved ones while at the same time spending time with them can be a whole lot of pressure and stress to deal with.

I can’t think of any Christmas in my lifetime where things weren’t stressful. Last minute gift shopping and the terror of Christmas crowds and the never-ending hours spent in the kitchen cooking and roasting and chopping and cleaning – it can all get a bit much if you let it.

This month I want you all to focus on tiny moments of calm – create those little pockets of silence for yourself and allow yourself to recalibrate.

Take some time to focus on what makes you happy, and what makes you feel calm. Is it reading in bed at midnight? Is it making a delicious meal to enjoy by yourself? Maybe you like going to the cinema on your own? Make sure you make time for those things over the holidays, so that the time you actually do spend with your family you can be 100% there for – both physically and mentally. You can’t pour from an empty cup, after all.

Some tips on having a stress free Christmas

The most incredible salted caramel Baileys cocktails {we make these at least once a week}!

Why not give this DIY hot chocolate bar a try this month? It makes a fun focal point for festive parties.

My December goals:

  1. Sleep more! I’ve been the worst at getting my eight hours as of late. I really need to try to get to bed earlier during the week – as I sit and write this it’s 1am on a Tuesday morning… So I’m obviously not off to a great start.
  2. Stop stressing the small stuff. This one is easier said than done, but I know it is doable – I just need to remind myself to gain some perspective on the situations that stress me out.
  3. Experiment with salad. My favourite meal as of late is a chicken salad, but I always go for the same version of one. I want to switch things up a little and try something new this month. Prawns? Halloumi? Who knows – but I’ll probably be sharing any new salad obsessions over on my instagram, so make sure you’re following me there.

I hope you all have a fab December! What are your goals for the month ahead?
