If you’re a bit of a foodie, like me, then it’s entirely possible you spend a great deal of time surrounded by food. Whether you’re cooking it, eating it or thinking about it, there comes a time when inspiration starts to wane. In these instances, I always turn to cookbooks, Pinterest and blogs.
I always like to give credit where credit is due, and thought it would be kind of cool to share my favourite food blogs/bloggers with you all today. Who knows – you might gather some serious inspiration and become a total foodie overnight (I can only hope). Without further ado – because there’s quite of a few of them – here are my favourite food blogs!
First up, I have to start with the beautiful Sara Forte and her blog Sprouted Kitchen. Sara’s writing is somewhat entrancing and her recipes are almost entirely vegetarian, but I do think it’s the pictures that really sell this blog to me. They are of course taken by her ever so talented husband, Hugh, and often the photographs feature Sara herself in her element: whipping up some magic in the kitchen. She might be simply tossing, chopping, stirring or folding, but you can see the care and attention she puts into her food. Who knew a salad could be so nourishing and enjoyable. Try her Mushroom Burgers with Asian Slaw – you’ll never look at a beef burger again, or her Cauliflower + Brown Rice Gratin which is my go-to meal for sitting on the couch watching back-to-back episodes of Shameless.
GIMME SOME OVEN.
A blog that at first appealed to me due to it’s bright and colourful pictures; Gimme Some Oven by Ali Ebright is the place to go if you’re looking to make food fun. Ali has this knack of writing with a smile that very few can do, and I especially love that her bright and bubbly attitude can be seen through her recipes. But don’t be mistaken that this blog is lacking in depth. Ali is beyond educated when it comes to food, and knows exactly how to cook chicken breasts to perfection in the oven (something which I am still yet to master) and cut + cook an artichoke. Try her deliciously healthy Kale Caesar Salad or her Slow Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup. (She also knows her way around 5-ingredient meals that look and taste delicious).
BE WELL BY KELLY.
If you don’t know who Kelly LeVeque is by now, I don’t even know if we can be friends anymore? (Just kidding). You might have seen her name (and her gorgeous face) popping up all over the internet lately, and that’s because she’s beyond educated in the realm of health and wellness, and further than that – she’s insanely intelligent. She’s also a major life saver when it comes to what you should put in your body and happens to create the best breakfast smoothie recipes ever. And, if I haven’t sold you enough already – she’s Jessica Alba, Emmy Rossum and Chelsea Handler’s nutritionist. I didn’t really wanna drop names but I’m worried you guys won’t understand what a gem this lady is. On her website, Be Well By Kelly, you’ll find lots of beautiful, nourishing recipes, like Butter Lettuce Wrapped Shrimp Tacos and a Pancake Party Smoothie. Did I mention she helps a lot of women manage their PCOS? (Umm helloooooo). Kelly’s also just released her first book, which I can’t wait to get my hands on. Order it here!
PINCH OF YUM.
Lindsay’s pictures were what first drew me to her beautiful blog, but her hilarious personality is what kept me around. Pinch of Yum is a goldmine of clever and creative recipes that make me drool at the sight of them, and they are delivered to you in the funnest way possible. There’s also the fact that every single picture on the blog is SO COSY. Too much cosy, maybe, if that even exists (I’m sure it doesn’t). Anyway, Lindsay and her husband went through a super tough time at the beginning of the year and have both still managed to maintain their positive presence in the online food world. If you’ve got five minutes, it would be lovely of you to head over to their site and send them some love and support. I can’t think of any people who deserve it more. While you’re there, you can check out her 30-Minute Vegetarian Meatballs – which are LEGIT – on top of polenta? Oh my god – so good. Also the tastiest Glowing Grilled Summer Detox Salad is phenomenal and will totally get you through the warmer months.
HALF BAKED HARVEST.
It wouldn’t be a post about food bloggers if I didn’t mention Tieghan of Half Baked Harvest. If there’s one thing you need to know, it’s that Tieghan is a hustler: she’s been doing this since she was a teenager, and boy oh boy is she good at it. I follow her on most (if not all?) social media platforms and she lives and breathes this world and it totally shows in her recipes and photographs. I’ve never seen Crockpot Creamy Cashew Chicken look this good, and let me tell ya – it tastes legit – like a flavour explosion in your mouth. This is the blog to come to if you’re in it for the long haul – as most of Tieghan’s recipes do require a fair amount of time and ingredients – but don’t let that scare you. Every second is worth it. She also makes the most delicious Crockpot Mexican Chili Lime Chicken. Can you say yum?!
KALE AND CARAMEL.
If you needed any indication at all that Lily is your girl when it comes to food, you could just look at the title of her blog. Kale and Caramel is such an original blog name and I feel as though that originality leaks through with the food and photography on Lily’s blog. Her writing is so fluid and emotive, and perhaps it’s because she grew up in such an interesting environment, but I feel like she is just so wise. I really love learning from her through little tid-bits on her social media and within the recipes themselves. You must try her Vegan Banana Pudding Pops for a healthier take on the traditional banana paddle pop and her Black Sesame Tofu Tacos with Sriracha Sour Cream and Kimchi Marinated Veggies to replace your typical taco night dish! I feel like Ella is a bit of an OG when it comes to the online food community, and it’s a position she’s well and truly earned. Deliciously Ella contains vegetarian recipes that are all wheat and (refined) sugar free, but aside from that – Ella has the wonderful ability of taking ingredients and turning them into something even more than a meal. There’s something warm and happy about the final product on the plate, and I feel as though I am part of a wider community with each recipe I make. Her Loaded Mexican Style Potato Skins are life-changing, and her Instant Bircher Muesli shows how much she understands the lives of her busy audience. I also kind of get a no-BS vibe from Ella. She exudes this confidence around real food, and goes to show that healthy eating isn’t hard, expensive, or defined by owning all of the superfoods. It’s just eating real food. Simple! Also – I wasn’t kidding about Ella being an OG… you can buy her cookbooks here (she has four)!
A COZY KITCHEN.
Despite the fact that her blog name is perhaps my favourite ever – it’s my goal in life to have a cozy kitchen – Adrianna of A Cozy Kitchen is basically just the big sister you’ve always wanted! She listens to rap music and has this attitude that comes across in everything she does, not to mention the fact that she is creative and talented AF. And she’s just so cool. I wish I could be as cool as her. Did I mention she has an adorable corgi named Amelia? You’ll need to make her Strawberry Sheet Cake with Rhubarb Meringue Frosting for your next party, and her Lemon-y, Artichoke-y, Kale-y One Pot Pasta is the perfect mid-week meal. MY DARLING LEMON THYME.
And someone that’s a little closer to my home (and my heart) is Emma Galloway of My Darling Lemon Thyme. Emma lives in New Zealand with her beautiful family and I actually recently wrote about her first book here (you can buy her newest here). I originally wasn’t going to include her blog in this post as I didn’t want to seem like some sort of crazy stalker, but it wouldn’t be a genuine reflection of my favourite food bloggers if I didn’t! The reality is that Emma’s was one of the first ‘healthy’ food blogs I found when I wanted to change what I was putting in my body and her laid back approach to food was beyond inspiring. Her up-bringing was (and still is!) fascinating to me and I love to see how those lessons shine through in the content and food she creates. Why not try her Gluten Free Apple, Cinnamon and Brown Butter Friands – which are perfect alongside an afternoon cuppa – or her Nectarine and Pickled Cucumber Rice Paper Rolls? Just make sure you read the story Emma shares about her husband in this post. It’ll break your heart but it is so important.
