A Boosted Iced Latte

Those who are subscribed to my newsletter know that I’m having a serious decaf iced latte moment right now.  

I’m at the point where I’m drinking at least three a day – which is so bizarre and new for me – but I’m loving every minute of it. 

Because iced lattes are my new *thing*, and have basically become 50% of my entire food/drink consumption in a day, I’ve been trying to add different potions and powders into them to make them that little bit better for me.

From vanilla bean powder to cinnamon and nutmeg, I think I’ve tried almost every spice there is to try alongside coffee. 

But then I had this fun idea.

What would happen if I started to incorporate superfoods – maca and lucuma to be more specific – into my iced lattes?

GUYS. I’m onto something pretty incred, if I do say so myself.

So – let’s talk maca and lucuma. 

Have you tried them?

Maca is a root vegetable – often ground to a powder for consumption – that can be used to improve your mood, balance your hormones and stabilise your blood sugar levels. It tastes almost like butterscotch, and is a dream when added to banana smoothies and iced lattes.

Lucuma is a variety of South American fruit that tastes like a combination of maple syrup and caramel, and is a fab natural sweetener in powder form that can be used in smoothies, baking, and – you guessed it! – iced lattes. It’s also high in beta-carotene, zinc and iron, which are all essential for glowing, gorgeous skin. 

Basically, this boosted iced latte is gonna put a little pep in your step while at the same time nourishing your body from the inside out. Better moods? Yes plz! Balanced hormones? Yes plz! Glowing skin? YES PLZ!!!!!

So – how do I make this magical boosted iced latte?

First, you’re gonna need to grab a cup or a glass. Whichever you prefer. 

I love a ball mason jar – it’s very millennial chic, right? 

Fill your glass with ice, and lots of it.

Now – prepare your coffee. I go with an organic decaf coffee, but you can go full-strength if that’s how you roll. 

Take your freshly prepared coffee shot and pour it carefully over the ice. Don’t be too crazy with it because you are mixing boiling hot with freezing cold and you don’t want to shatter the glass or make a mess, but just pour it over slowly and allow the heat from the coffee to start cracking and melting the ice cubes. 

Grab your maca powder and lucuma powder and measure out half a teaspoon of each before adding them to the glass with the ice and coffee. Pour in your milk of choice {I love an unsweetened almond milk} until the glass is half full. Now, take a spoon and mix the coffee vigorously until all of the powder has dissolved. This might take a minute or two, but you want to mix it as much as possible so the hot liquid can melt the ice cubes a little more. 

Now, pour more milk in until the glass is full, and you’ve got yourself a boujee af boosted iced latte made from the comforts of your own kitchen! It honestly doesn’t get better than that!
