During the warmer months, I really try to steer clear of makeup. Most days are fairly hot and humid where I live, so clogged pores from a heavy foundation or smudged mascara just isn’t my vibe, yano?
On the times that I do wear makeup, which is probably once or twice a week, I try to choose products that are both lightweight and easy to apply. I haven’t really got the time to spend blending out a full coverage foundation, nor do I really want to sit in front of a mirror for twenty minutes applying eyeshadow just to sweat/swim it off within minutes.
So, in the interests of sharing a SULA-preventative foundation and a non-irritating mascara, here are the makeup products I’ve been reaching for and loving lately.
Primer: I’m not usually a massive primer fan, but I have found that utilising a primer in the sweatier months does make my foundation last a few hours longer, with less transfer. The Sisley Paris Instant Èclat has been a go-to of mine for months now because of the dewy finish it leaves on my skin. I’ve found it’s staying power to be remarkably better than most other primers I’ve tried, and it still manages to leave my skin looking dewy with a layer of powder on top.
Concealer: I’ve tried a bunch of different concealers and Maybelline’s Fit Me! Concealer always seems to work better with my skin. I actually use a few different shades of this concealer for different things, whether that’s brightening up my under-eye area or concealing a blemish. If I’m feeling especially lazy or have to leave the house in like two minutes, I sometimes just slather this product all over my face and blend it in – it works fab as a light coverage foundation.
Foundation: I’m also an avid user of Maybelline’s Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation. It blends out easily and within minutes I have an all-over coverage that doesn’t suffocate my acne-prone skin. I couldn’t rate this foundation highly enough – especially because it doesn’t make my summer-long SULA (sweaty upper lip area) obvious.
Powder: If I’m not using this translucent powder, I’m reaching for my Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder to press lightly into the skin on my t-zone and underneath my eyes. I’m one of those people that *has* to use powder as I have naturally very oily skin. I hate the way excessive sheen looks on my face, so I like to press quite a bit of this powder onto my face if it’s a hot day.
Brows: After combing through my brows with my spooli, I like to use the Rimmel Brow This Way Fibre Pencil to fill in my brows. I’ve tried other brow products, like pomades and pencils, but find the formula of this particular product to be the best. It’s made up of tiny pigmented fibres that fill in your brows in a more textured manner, and it’s not waxy at all. My brows are naturally quite awkward to fill in because they’re half brown, half blonde, so this pencil and the texture it provides is a godsend for me. Sometimes I use a brow gel like this one, sometimes I don’t. It just depends on what I’m doing on that particular day and how much staying power I need.
Contour & Highlight: I don’t do a whole lot of contour as I prefer a glowy, diffused face on the day to day, however I do put a little bit of an ashy brown shade around my hairline on my forehead and sometimes carve out my cheeks and jawline a little. I love the Nude By Nature Contour Palette because it has the only shades I could ever need for an easy contouring process, and for highlight, I tend to switch between two products. Sometimes I use the L’oreal Paris Wake Up & Glow Highlighting Palette, and other times I use the Luma Beauty Highlighter Stick. It just depends on what kind of look I’m going for and whether I want to use a cream or a powder product. I’ll usually just highlight the tops of my cheekbones, the ridge of my nose and my cupids bow, but other times I’ll highlight the centre of my eyelid and the centre of my brow bone.
Eyes & Lashes: When it comes to lashes, I couldn’t live without my eyelash curler and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, although I will say that sometimes I find the formula can smudge a little under my eyes. If I’m switching things up, I do love the Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara too. I find it works the best if you’re very light handed with it, otherwise my lashes don’t really get the length I’m after. As for eyeshadow, I don’t really use a lot of eyeshadow on the day-to-day. Sometimes I’ll contour my eyelid a little using my contour palette, other times I’ll just leave it.
Tools: I’ve already shared my love for my eyelash curler and spooli, however I also love my Nude By Nature makeup brushes! I use the Buffing Brush for applying my foundation and lighter concealers under my eyes, the Concealer Brush for covering spots (fab if you’ve got an active breakout as you can just lightly tap the concealer on top of it), the Contour Brush for contour and highlight, the Blending Brush for applying darker contour shades to my eyelid and the Mineral Brush for applying my setting powders.
I’d love to know which products you’ve been reaching for lately! Is there anything I need to add to my list?
