I’ve recently switched up my makeup removing routine, in order to be a little kinder to the environment. I used to be a makeup wipe kinda girl, but wanted to try something a little different because I found the waste from that routine to be enormous. So I tried a few different makeup removing oils and balms, but found that everything I tried just irritated my eyes during the night. I think it was because I could never quite remove all of the product from my eyelashes and eye area, so they were just so itchy all of the time.
Then I switched to micellar water (a.k.a. magic water) on a cotton round, but realised I was throwing three to four cotton rounds in the bin every day. Not good. So after lots and lots of searching, and months of trialling different products, I’m now here.
My current routine is so easy. Stupidly easy, actually, and my eyes are no longer irritated for hours. I’m also not throwing wipes or rounds in the bin daily. The products I’m using are travel friendly, low clutter and super affordable (which is maj)!
So, what I do is this:
I use both sides of the Face Halo to remove my makeup, gently rubbing the pad in small, circular motions around my eye area to remove mascara and eyeliner before removing the makeup from the rest of my face. Sometimes, if I’m wearing more makeup than normal, I’ll need to run the Face Halo under warm water again and apply more Bioderma micellar water to the pad, but I can usually get away with removing a full face of makeup with just the one application of water + micellar.
After my makeup is removed, I rinse the Face Halo under more warm water, squeeze out the excess and hang it on the back of my bathroom door to dry, before throwing it in the laundry hamper to be washed.
The reason I love this routine is mainly because it’s so simple. I’m not fiddling about with balms or oils and I don’t throw away hundreds of cotton rounds a month. Sometimes I take the Face Halo into the shower with me and use it to remove my facial cleanser as well, as it is slightly exfoliating and leaves your skin feeling smooth after you use it. I also love using it to remove face masks and treatments. It’s easier and less awkward to deal with than a face cloth, and it dries in just a few hours, so it’s obviously a lot less hassle.
And the best part?
A 500mL bottle of Bioderma micellar water lasts me around six months, which means I’m only putting two empty plastic bottles into landfill each year. It’s also fragrance-free and super gentle on my sensitive skin.
And one Face Halo can be washed and reused around 200 times! That means a three pack of Face Halo can give you an entire year of waste-free makeup removal. It’s crazy right? I only wish I had made the switch sooner!
What are you using to remove your makeup at the moment? Can you see yourself ever making the switch?
