Styling A Bookcase

Styling A Bookcase

Interior decor and styling is something I’m both fascinated with and passionate about, and I’m always looking for new ways to present my home.

Something I’ve realised lately is that I own a f*ck tonne of books. Like, an actual f*ck tonne. It might have something to do with the fact that I run a book club (have you joined yet?) but it also could be down to the fact that I hoard books almost as much as I hoard cats and tea

The only problem with owning a lot of books is storing/displaying them. Sure, I could lock them away in a cupboard somewhere, but what’s the point? The key reason to buy a tangible book is to display it, after all, so I’ve been looking into how to display them in a way that’s still appealing to the eye. Here’s what I’ve found.

RAINBOW SHELVES.

This is such a gorgeous look, and it really appeases the Type A in me. While I do feel like you need wall length horizontal shelves to make this style pop, you just cannot go past an organised system like this!

SPINES IN.

This look is so chic! While I wouldn’t really implement it with my current bookcase, I can see myself doing this with books I’ve already read somewhere else in my house. It matches my neutral decor perfectly.

ORGANISED CHAOS.

This term is totally subjective, as some people prefer to organise by genre, or author, or title, but this is another option for those of you out there who enjoy a little bit of organised chaos. I can see myself implementing this style in a lounge room type set up, with a white couch and a glass coffee table. The colour would be the perfect feature.

As for my personal bookcase, I decided to implement the rainbow look. What do you think?

I definitely still think it would look best if the bookcase was horizontal, though. I’m planning on changing a few things up in our house soon, and the bookcase will be horizontal then, but I just thought these rainbow shelves look so good in the meantime! The organised structure of them makes me feel so calm haha.

How do you style your bookcase?

  • This is a really interesting idea for a post! I’m not a big fan of color-coordinating your bookshelves but I do love when they fill up your walls top to bottom. I never even thought about placing the spines in instead, it clearly makes it look so much nicer and more neutral, and that type of look is right up my alley! But it is a HUGE problem when you want to actually find something tho. :/

    • Aw thanks Joanne. I can imagine it would be quite a task to find a specific book if they are facing inwards, but it does look super chic! Heading over to your blog now xo
