Skincare That Exceeds Expectations: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid
You guys know I’m obsessed with skincare – like, actually obsessed. I firmly believe in the idea that the better your skin is, the less makeup you’ll need, and while I do love makeup – I love clear, smooth and glowy skin more. Maybe it’s because I love to swim in the ocean or maybe it’s because I always get foundation on my white bedding… either way, I would gladly go through life only wearing makeup on date night once or twice a week. I’ve always been scared to admit that, because in no way do I want to exclude myself from the beauty community. I love radiant foundations and I love a contoured face. I love playing around with brightening concealers and I’m OBSESSED with fluttery lashes paired with a bold brow.
I suffer from hormonal acne, dark circles and a lacklustre complexion, so I do wear a full face when I go to work and class… but wouldn’t it be nice to apply makeup purely because you want to, instead of applying makeup purely because you have to?
Now, as I am a University student, I don’t have funds to throw around on expensive skincare everyday, so when I spend money on products, I want to know they’re actually going to work. I do of course look at reviews online before I buy, but some of them are so 50/50 that it’s hard to make a decision purely from reading them. I thought, as I’m buying these products, I may as well let you know which ones are worth the cash – specifically which products exceed my expectations. You can trust that the products featured in these posts will be in my skincare collection for life – and I’m not going to recommend something that’s totally shit.
The first ‘Skincare That Exceeds Expectations’ is on The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid, which was actually the first product I tried from The Ordinary.
It’s basically what it says on the bottle: hyaluronic acid 2% + B5, and it’s intended to hydrate your skin. According to The Ordinary, ‘hyaluronic acid can attract up to 1,000 times it’s weight in water’, so you can imagine how applying this product before your moisturiser, serum or facial mist can drastically improve your skin in terms of hydration and product absorption.
One of the reasons I love this product is that it totally plumps up my skin – like botox plumping. It smooths out my under eye area and makes my skin feel so nice and react really well to a light exfoliate. Did I mention it’s under $10 per bottle?!
So – how on earth do you use it? I know I was wondering the same thing when I first purchased it. I slot it into my routine as follows:
First, I remove all makeup with micellar water. Then, I jump in the shower and cleanse my skin. After I hop out of the shower, I use a toner, and then I add 2-3 drops of the Hyaluronic Acid to my hands and rub it into the skin on my face, neck and decolletage. After this, I apply a serum, followed by my moisturiser, and sometimes a facial mist. See? Easy!
I hope you enjoyed this quick and snappy post about this holy grail hydrating product. Let me know in the comments some of your ride-or-die skincare bits! I may just do a haul.
