DIY Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub

DIY Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub

It’s no secret around here that I love me a little DIY, and there are so many reasons why.

It’s cheaper, great for on the fly, and also kinda fun? You also get to experiment with different ingredients and measurements and really create a product to target a specific issue. Think a coconut oil coffee scrub for dry skin and cellulite, and herbal tea eye patches for tired, irritated eyes.

Today’s DIY is a vanilla coconut body scrub for dull skin.

My skin has been a little lackluster lately, and kind of boring, so I wanted to create something to brighten it up a little and make it look a bit more fresh. I tried my coffee scrub, which worked a treat, but the effects wore off within days and left me with a hell of a mess to clean up. Coffee grinds are no joke!

This three ingredient sugar scrub is for those of you who want clean, smooth skin on the double. I also left the oil out of this recipe, so it’s safe to use on your face! [I don’t know about you guys, but coconut oil makes my skin breakout so bad]. It’s also kiiiiiinda festive? The coconut sugar smells almost like caramel, which is one of my favourite scents in the world, and the combination of vanilla, caramel and salt is just so lush

The reason this scrub is so great is because of the ingredients. The abrasiveness of the coconut sugar means it will slough off old skin cells and reveal the fresh, new skin underneath. Vanilla is antibacterial, and as such can help clear up acne and blemishes. It’s also soothing for the skin. The sea salt flakes are both exfoliating and deeply cleansing. Ever notice after you’ve been in the ocean that your skin seems clearer? Sea salt helps balance out your skins oil production and kill off any bacteria that would lead to a breakout or ten. It’s basically the perfect thing to get your limbs holiday ready.

DIY Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub

1 cup of coconut sugar

1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract

1 tablespoon of Maldon sea salt flakes

Simply combine all ingredients, grab a scoop and work it around your skin. I like to massage it in clockwise circles to ensure I’m reaching all parts of my skin and really getting in there. Wash off with warm water and repeat, if desired.

And as the holidays are coming up, this scrub would make the perfect DIY Christmas gift. Simply double the recipe and then gift it in a pretty jar with a ribbon wrapped around it [soooo Pinterest!]. I’ve always been a Ball Mason Jar fan, but these Weck Jars are incredibly beautiful, and I think they’re better for gifting.
