DIY Green Tea Sugar Scrub

DIY Green Tea Sugar Scrub

Green tea is having a major moment in our household this month.

I’ve always been a fan of drinking green tea itself, my love of which spurred me on to try matcha {and then iced matcha}, and since then I’ve been beyond obsessed with both green tea as a flavour and green tea as a scent.

Another aspect of green tea that I love is the health benefits it provides. Simply ingesting a cup or three of brewed green tea daily can fight inflammation, improve brain function, increase fat burn, improve dental health and lower your risk of infection.

When applying it to your skin however, the magic really starts to happen.

Green tea improves your complexion – flushing out toxins from the skin, healing blemishes and reducing inflammation. It’s also proven to be effective in helping the skin rejuvenate, and fights signs of aging while at the same time reducing dark circles. It’s basically your best friend when it comes to taking care of your skin.

I have an abundance of green tea in my pantry {I’m not kidding either – I could never drink it all} so I thought it was probably time to make up some sort of skincare item with it.

Now, the skin on my face is both sensitive and resilient at the same time. It seems to react negatively to certain products, but can also take quite a beating when it comes to physical and chemical exfoliation.

I know – my skin is more annoying than me.

Anyway, I’ve been noticing a buildup of roughness around my cheeks as of late, and so I thought a green tea sugar scrub would be the perfect way to combat it. And it was!

Here’s how to make it.

makes one small jam jar worth of scrub

10 tablespoons of green tea leaves {this brand is fab} or 10 tea bags, cut open and poured out

1/2 cup coconut sugar

1 tbsp avocado oil or coconut oil

Combine all ingredients in a small jar.

When in the shower, take a scoop of the scrub and apply to the face – massaging in small, circular motions. After you’ve exfoliated like this for a minute or so, leave the scrub on until you’re almost finished showering, and gently wash off at the last minute. Store the remainder on your bathroom sink or in your shower for up to a week.
