DIY Gingerbread Chai Sugar Scrub featuring Bluebird Tea Co

There’s just something to luxurious about an all over body scrub. My skin always feels better, looks better and – if I’ve incorporated the right ingredients – smells better, too.

The other day I set out to create a simple body scrub out of the ingredients inside my kitchen.

As I opened the double doors to my pantry, a bag of tea literally fell out at me. I managed to catch it before I lost an eye, and as I was placing it back onto my overstocked tea shelf, I noticed the blend.

It was Gingerbread Chai by Bluebird Tea Co.

I took a quick look at the ingredients on the bag [cinnamon, rooibos, cardamom + ginger] and immediately knew I had to somehow incorporate it into my scrub.

Cinnamon, ginger and cardamom are all said to improve the skins overall appearance, and rooibos tea is said to soothe the skin and reduce any redness or irritation.

I’ve also used raw sugar, which is possibly the most abrasive of all sugars, and a little bit of macadamia oil, to moisturise the new skin after you’ve sloughed off the old stuff.

So basically, this scrub is the perfect addition to your skincare routine. It’s also especially fab to gift out this time of year, when redness and sun-accelerated irritation is at an all time high. The quantities in this recipe make for one small jars worth of scrub, but you could always triple the recipe and give two jars out to your friends!

Why not share the beautiful skin around?

makes one small jam jars’ worth of scrub

1 cup of raw sugar

1/2 cup of Gingerbread Chai [use GGTEABIRD56 for 20% off at checkout!]

2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon

2 teaspoons of ground cardamom

2 teaspoons of ground ginger

2 tablespoons of macadamia oil

Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.

Transfer the sugar scrub into a jar with an airtight lid, and you’re ready to go!

Simply scoop out a handful once you’re in the shower and rub it in circular motions around the areas you feel need a bit of exfoliation – think legs, arms and back.

Replace the lid immediately after use, and if stored in a cool, dry place, should last a couple of weeks.

Will you be giving this scrub a go? I’m making it in batches to give out to my family and friends as we speak.

Merry Christmas!
